Robyn Francis has been involved in community and ecovillage development for nearly 30 years and is a leading international permaculture pioneer, designer, educator and facilitator. Participants at past courses have included people looking to start a community, eco-village developers, community workers, architects, planners, landscape architects, engineers, environmental planners, permaculture designers and teachers, community development facilitators and people working in sustainable aid and development. Course includes presentations, group work, participatory learning, project work and field trips to Jarlanbah and Currumbin Ecovillage Participants will have an opportunity to apply their knowledge to developing draft concepts for a new co-housing design project. An empowering and inspiring teacher who “walks the talk ”, founding director of Permaculture International Ltd “87, editor of the Permaculture International Journal ’87-‘93, in 1994 Francis founded Djanbung Gardens which attracts students and visitors from around the world. The designer of Jarlanbah, NSW first community title eco-village, Robyn has consulted on numerous community and sustainable development projects in Australia and overseas including India, Malaysia, Bali and New Zealand, working with indigenous and culturally diverse communities. Her work has influenced planning policies at the local and state level. She is currently consulting on projects in Nimbin and Malaysia. PETER CUMING Managing director of Sustainable Futures Australia Pty Ltd, based in Byron Bay, Peter works at the cutting edge of sustainability planning and education, eco-settlement design, futures visioning, key liaison facilitation and mediation, and project management. Peter has worked cooperatively with communities, industry and governments in high level policy-making and corporate and strategic planning for over 20 years. Currently Peter heads project teams working on regional to international sustainability strategies, plans and initiatives.
