Growing Abundance All Year Round – Food production for Self-reliance & Market Gardening

Learn how to grow an abundance of organic food throughout the year. This 9-day intensive course is ideal for anyone serious about food self-reliance and small-scale commercial market gardening with a focus on vegetable and herb production.

Topics include basic botany and plant families, analysing and amending soils, compost and compost teas, different bed preparation techniques, biochar activation, planning a year-round food supply, companion planting and crop rotation systems, succession planting, crop nutrition, organic certification requirements, post harvest physiology and handling, seed saving and methods of propagation, integrated pest and weed management, Workplace Health & Safety, maintaining and caring for tools plus field visit to a commercial permaculture market garden.

Course participants will receive a course handbook with detailed notes, practical information and resources.

Course teachers are Robyn Francis, Angela Skehan and Melian Fertl plus guests.

Course Fee: $975 includes tuition, course notes, student resources and facilities, plus camping on site, catered breakfast & lunches (kitchen available to self-cater for evening meals) NB local participants not requiring camping & breakfast on site can apply for $100 discount.

About the trainers:

Robyn Francis shares experience from gardening organically for over 40 years, including three decades of permaculture teaching and practice. She is passionate about food security and self-reliance.

Angela Skehan is a highly experienced certified organic market gardener and valued member of the PCA teaching team. She is passionate about organic food production and soil care.

Melian Fertl is a qualified chef, permaculturist and manages the garden production at Djanbung. She is passionate about local food, garden-to-table and preserving the surplus. Melian operates Abundance Café and will be catering for the course.
