PCA is excited to offer limited places for our new masterclass internship program:  The two specialist 11-week masterclass internships will commence August 16, 2016 at Djanbung Gardens, one in all aspects of food production Garden-to-Table, and the other in Bamboo, Natural Building and Landscaping. These internships involve 25-30 hours per week structured workplace and classroom training with qualified and highly experienced trainers to gain and ground professional skills to be a confident and competent practitioner. The number of places are limited to ensure that all interns receive quality training and individual attention. The Bamboo/Build internship is limited to 5 places and the Foodie Internship is limited to 4 places.

PCA is serious about quality training through real-life practical and creative learning experiences. For the past 11 years we have conducted accredited vocational training in permaculture with an excellent track record in delivering high quality programs. Now that we no longer offer the full-time courses, we continue to offer structured longer-term training experiences for motivated permaculture students to gain practical skills and specialist knowledge to work professionally in different aspects of permaculture application. These programs are designed by Robyn Francis, one of permaculture’s leading teachers and educators, with 33 years international permaculture experience and  key designer of the Australian accredited vocational permaculture qualifications.

These two internship stream will be running concurrently to create an interesting and diverse social dynamic for the 11-week program.

Bamboo and Built Environment Masterclass Internship is a very hands-on internship with a focus on all aspects of working with bamboo, plus natural building, landscaping and appropriate technology. You will be learning tricks of the trade with master landscaper Brett Parsons on some creative projects involving stone-walling and floor masonry. This time of year is the bamboo harvest season and you will learn all the intricacies of clump management, harvest, treatment, storage, crafting and building with a diversity of bamboo species. This internship also includes the Permaculture Aid Workers course, annual Bamboo masterclass workshop, building with natural materials and may also involve gaining some experience with earthworks. Garden-to-Table Masterclass ‘Foodie’ Internship is focused on all aspects of commercial and domestic food production in permaculture systems, from planning, growing, harvest and post harvest, storage, preservation, fermentation, preparation and cooking. Learn to plan for food security and year-round food supply, practical organic production systems and market gardening, organic certification, work in a commercial kitchen, permaculture cafe, catering for groups and community events. This internship is under the direction of our qualified permaculture chef, Melian Fertl, and includes 15 days of formal classroom training with Robyn Francis, Angela Skenan and Janelle Schafer. The internship fee includes all training, course notes, tools and equipment, access to site and training resources (internet, library etc), camping/accommodation and a contribution to the communal food kitty. Interns live as an onsite living learning community with an independent kitchen and living space and all will contribute to the regular maintenance of the animals, garden and farm. Interns will have 1-2 days free each week. The real full value of the program is $5500, which we are offering for just $2750 this year only.
