APT Program Overview

APT PROGRAM OVERVIEW

2012 Dates:

Semester 1:  February 13 - June 20
Semester 2:  July 30 - Dec 6 (NB mid-year intakes for Cert IV & Diploma need to complete the July 13-27 PDC)
 
Integrated Cert III & IV Learning Program
 The integrated Cert III/IV program is built on the common set of underlying knowledge and skills central to both qualifications and includes the PDC (Permaculture Design Course). The program also contains dedicated sessions and modules specific to each certificate level. Diploma core units are covered together with Certificate IV core during the first semester and diploma students can choose up to 2 units from Cert IV electives.

Semester 1 Overview

Intake for Certificates III, Certificate IV and Diploma

The CORE program runs 3 days/week plus an extra day for Cert IV & Diploma students

Term 1

CORE: PDC (Permaculture Design Course), surveying, communications,  IT & web skills, preparing maps & plans, practical gardening, composting, soil management, animal systems,  natural building, implementation planning.

Cert IV & Dip: above plus design graphics, client brief, concept & detail drawings, bills of quantity, report writing.

Term 2

CORE: botany, propagation, food forests & orchards,  native plants in pc, integrated pest and weed management,  planning food security, small crop production – veg, herbs, spices, craft plants, harvest & post harvest, storing and preserving crops, community event organisation and management, organising & promoting annual June Open Day, Bushfoods and Restoration Ecology

Certificate IV & Diploma: above core program plus promoting community programs, develop community networks, urban design projects and design studio. Diploma tutorials

  

 

SEMESTER  2 Overview

NB Fresh intakes for Cert IV and Diploma studies will commence 3 weeks early to complete the winter intensive PDC and Advanced Design Skills (ADS) course

Term 3

CORE: specialist practical & theory workshops on composting toilets, waste water treatment, water testing, soil food web, Seed Saving  & managing  a seed bank, Biochar, blacksmithing, bamboo harvest, treatment and construction, making natural dyes & inks, tropical  crops & vegetable production, animal systems.

NB This terms ends the Certificate III course.

Cert IV & Diploma above core program plus rural design, design studio, promotion, community facilitation, working with human & cultural diversity

Term 4

Sustainable Aid & Adv Community Dvmt, Bamboo construction.

Certificate IV: complete project and assignment work for final end-of-year presentation and assessment.

Diploma: strategic planning, research, community consultation, facilitation, governance, dealing with conflict, tutorials, mentoring and self-directed project work

 
 

Diploma of Permaculture
Standard Diploma Program

Semester 1 – participation in Cert IV core program and PDC (Permaculture Design Course) plus diploma design workshops and tutorials to complete training for diploma core units and some electives
Semester 2 – intensive short modules, master class workshops and tutorials for electives, mentored self-directored  individual and group research and project work and planning internships and project work for 3rd Semester
Semester 3 – internship placements and project work to complete unit requirements.
