The Permaculture Design Course (PDC)
This course provides a comprehensive introduction to permaculture principles, applications & design practices. The 80+hour PDC at Djanbung Gardens includes the standard 72-hour international PDC curriculum, addressing all major climatic zones (temperate, subtropic, tropical & arid) and the breadth of permaculture applications for sustainable urban, rural & bioregional design and development. Special attention in our permaculture training is given to climatic zones represented by course participants.
The course meets a common international standard as a foundation course for permaculture practitioners and teachers.

The PDC is included in the full-time APT Cert III & Cert IV course program at Djanbung Gardens. The PDC foundation training is conducted 2 days/week over the first 8 weeks of Semester 1. This course is open to public registration as the Part-time PDC.
Permaculture College Australia Inc offers the PDC as a 2-week intensive course in January and July as part of the Summer school and Winter School programs. The intensive PDC + 3-day Design Skills/FLOW short course provides an entry point to gain units of competency in APT Cert III and IV through Flexible Learning and post-course independent studies and project work. The July PDC is entrypoint for people comencing APT studies in Semester 2.
The PDC is an essential prerequisite for:
¨ full membership of Permaculture International Ltd
¨ teaching Permaculture
¨ APT teacher registration
¨ attending Permaculture Designers Convergences, nationally and internationally
TOPICS INCLUDE:
o Permaculture ethics, principles and design for sustainability
o Eco-literacy, patterns in mature and ecological processes
o sustainable traditional & indigenous cultures
o Climate, global to local , climate zones and change
o Soil ecology and biology, organic soil management strategies, compost
o Water management planning, collection, storage and conservation, waste water treatment, earthworks and aquaculture
o Forest ecosystems and design of forests for food, forage, fibre, structural materials, habitat, conservation, wildlife, tree-cropping and farm forestry
o Food producing systems for home gardens and small holdings, from balcony to broad acre farmlands
o Integrated free-range and animal forage systems
o Design for fire, drought & natural disasterso Integrated organic pest & weed control
o Appropriate energy and resource conserving technologies and design, renewable energy systems, and passive solar house design
o Bioregional & community development strategies
o Urban renewal, eco-village design, community gardens and city farms community economics, legal structures and organisation

Full course fee: $1450 /$1100 (sliding scale work exchange). Register now & pay $200 to secure your place. Balance due before course commencement.

Course fee covers all tuition and notes, breakfast, refreshments and light lunch, all evening meals and camping on site. NB Limited bunk and guest room accommodation available on site at extra cost, other options in the village and beyond.

All participants receive a copy of Permaculture Education’s PDC Handbook with over 120 pages of notes and resource information - providing you with a valuable information resource throughout the course and for future reference.
This 4-day intensive course provides skills training in design drawing, drafting, basic surveying, client brief & communications, contacts, costing and bills of quantity, and tips for establishing a design consultancy. This course is also a bridging course between the PDC and APT with orientation to APT Cert IV and Diploma core units, assessment requirements and Flexible Learning Options to work towards completing a Cert IV in Permaculture qualification.
