Diploma of Permaculture

Is designed for those involved in permaculture design, consultancy and/or management, and community development. It is also designed for those who are seeking to develop management level skills and knowledge through training.

 Career Opportunities

This qualification will provide training in permaculture for those who are working as project managers on permaculture community development projects, and those seeking to become permaculture systems designers and/or consultants, and work as facilitators and consultants for community consultative and planning processes.

Client groups include those who have completed basic permaculture studies, those looking to be supervisors on labour market/community development programs including those based in indigenous communities, and those involved in ecovillage and intentional community development. Outcomes include further training options, employment as a project manager or consultant across permaculture, agriculture, horticulture or land management industries.

Duration: Diploma of Permaculture may require up to 3 semesters

Standard Diploma Program

Semester 1 – participation in Cert IV core program and PDC (Permaculture Design Course) plus diploma design workshops and tutorials to complete training for diploma core units and some electives
Semester 2 – intensive short modules,creative community facilitation, sustainable aid course, master class workshops and tutorials for electives, mentored self-directored  individual and group research/project work and planning internships and project work for 3rd Semester
Semester 3 – internship placements and project work to complete unit requirements for final assessment.

Complete 11 units of competency

Group A
QLD125RCH01B Carry out permaculture field research
QLD125PLA03B Develop a strategic plan for a permaculture project or enterprise
QLD125RCH07B Research and interpret requirements for a permaculture project
QLD125PLA05B  Plan and supervise the implementation of permaculture project works
QLD125COM10B Prepare a sustainable community and bioregional development strategy
QLD125COM11B Facilitate participatory planning and learning activities
 
Group B choose 3 units from selection below:

QLD125COM12B  Plan community governance and decision-making processes
RTE5921A Market products and services
QLD124RES09B Manage a permaculture seed bank
QLD124RES07B Design harvesting and storage systems for permaculture products

 

Rules: A maximum of two (2) units from other permaculture qualifications levels can be substituted for elective units in this qualification At least 8 of the units of competency presented for this qualification must relate specifically to permaculture work procedures, activities or contexts

Duration:  generally 3 semesters to complete Diploma studies
