Organic Soil Care Workshop


April 23 (Tues 9am-12.30pm)

Healthy soil means healthy plants, means healthy food. Soil is central to successful gardening and food production. Get to know and care for your soil as a living ecosystem.This half-day workshop with Angela Skehan will include
• soil types, structure and physical properties
• requirements of a healthy soil ecosystem
• an introduction to soil biology and chemistry
• how to do a pH test and what it means
• steps involved in assessing your soil with Soil Care Card
• strategies to manage a healthy soil organically

Workshop Fee: $65 (Earlybird $55 ends April 3) includes tuition, handouts & morning tea. BYO lunch.
Bring a small sample of your soil, a cupful is sufficient (250-300ml)

Angela Skehan is a local organic farmer and market gardener sharing a lifetime of experience in vegetable growing, 15 years as a commercial market gardener and has been Certified Organic since 2008. Angela is passionate about the environment and understanding and caring for the soil as the foundation for healthy food. Her enthusiasm, grounded in science and practical experience, is directed to empowering people to grow their own to achieve a healthy level of food self-reliance.

Venue: Djanbung Gardens is a purpose-designed permaculture education centre and demonstration farm founded in 1994 by Robyn Francis. The beautiful earth brick classroom is set in a permaculture landscape where what is taught is practiced. Courses and education programs at Djanbung Gardens are operated by Permaculture College Aus Inc, (not-for-profit community education & PD in permaculture).
