Sustainable Aid for Permaculture Development Work

Are you involved in sustainable aid, development work, post-disaster relief?

This intensive course will develop specific awareness, knowledge and skills for being effective, appropriate and culturally sensitive in this important field of permaculture activism and education.  Discover effective tools to work with communities to build resilience so they can better meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world and impacts of climate change, resource depletion, food and water insecurity, increasing natural disaster and economic instability.  Prior completion of a PDC recommended.

• preparing yourself for undertaking this kind of work including research, working with development agencies and NGO’s, and issues of personal security in overseas field work.

Course activities will include discussion, case studies, presentations, participatory processes, role play, group projects, practical and experiential activities.

This course can be very challenging on a deep personal level, and will provide an invaluable basis for either working in the field or with overseas aid support foundations and organisations.

This course assumes the prior knowledge of the PDC or working knowledge of Permaculture.

TEACHER: Robyn Francis shares experience and insights from three decades of working as Permaculture trainer and consultant in diverse countries and cultures including India, Indonesia, Fiji, Taiwan, Cuba, Brazil, China, Malaysia, Hong Kong and with indigenous communities in Australia, New Zealand and Taiwan, and as advisor/mentor to Permaculture NGO’s and activists around the world. This course was originally developed by Robyn Francis in 1991 and undergoes constant revision in keeping with global changes and their impacts on the world’s poorest and most vulnerable peoples.

Certification: Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion issued by Permaculture Education and Permaculture College Australia.

Participants will need to bring: clip board, lecture pad, pens, colour felt pens, ruler, sensible walking shoes, sun hat.  Bring useful resource books and information relating to course topics and relevant projects. Advise participants to revise their PDC notes and read tropical and dryland Permaculture articles & chapters from Bill Mollison’s Permaculture: A Designers Manual. Recommend participants who have not previously completed a PDC to read Earth Users Guide to Permaculture by Rosemary Morrow or Introduction to Permaculture by Bill Mollison for a basic understanding of Permaculture concepts, terminologies and practices.

Course Fee $925  (Early bird $130 discount for full payment before a month prior to start of course ) Fee covers tuition, course materials and handbook, refreshments, catered lunches and some evening meals (communal kitchen available for DIY breakfast and non-catered evening meals)  Free on-site Camping.
